Hanningfield Sailability Project
Accessible sailing at Hanningfield Reservoir, giving disabled people the opportunity to enjoy, learn and develop sailing skills in a purpose-built reservoir setting.
Sailing for disabled people
Hanningfield Sailability has operated at the reservoir since 2013. The project provides sailing opportunities for people with disabilities and is supported by volunteers, accessible shore facilities and specialist boats.
2026 season: the project’s current site states that sailing takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from April to August, with morning and afternoon sessions. Booking is required for a sailing time-slot.

Boats and facilities
Current facilities include accessible changing and toilet facilities and hoists to assist sailors who need help transferring into boats. The project operates a range of adapted craft including Hansa 303s, Challenger and Weta trimarans, Martin 16s, Libertys and an RS Venture keelboat.
More confident sailors can sail single-handed; others can sail with a buddy. Sailing is weather-dependent and may be cancelled in stronger winds.
Volunteers
A dedicated volunteer team runs the shore and water-based activities, safety cover and sailing sessions. New volunteers are welcome, particularly those with sailing experience.
